New era at SIH includes new management, bankruptcy

Whether intentional or not, it seemed appropriate that a special Saturday meeting of the Southern Inyo Healthcare District board of directors was held in a Lone Pine church because the hospital board was flying on a wing and a prayer and trying to avoid a catastrophic crash that would close the local hospital for good.
The board, after a seven-hour public meeting, approved a management contract that will turn over all hospital operations, from staffing to finances to maintenance, to a Tulare, Calif., firm. The company will spend its own money to staff and operate the hospital, and only be repaid if the facility starts running in the black at some point in the future.
