Caltrans reopens mountain passes after last week’s storm

Press Release

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) have removed the snow, cleared the debris and made the necessary repairs to reopen SR 89 (Monitor Pass), SR 108 (Sonora Pass), and SR 120 (Tioga Pass) as of Monday, May 11, 2015.

Caltrans opened the passes for the spring season on Friday, April 17, 2015 but closed them on Wednesday, May 6, 2013, due to weather conditions.

Caltrans crews responsible for the road opening extend their best wished for safe summer traveling to those who enjoy the recreational opportunities California has to offer.

As is often the case this time of year, opening and closing of mountain passes is dependent on favorable weather conditions. Caltrans crews closely monitor these highways to determine if it is safe for the traveling public.
