The Bishop Lady Broncos hosted the Burros from Burroughs High School last Saturday and came away with a 6-1 victory.
Bishop got off to a quick start with team captain Alex Tillemans scoring two minutes into the game.
Eva Bohg scored on a breakaway and Yessenia Mora scored off an assist from Betty-Jo Whitman.
Bianca Sandoval made the fourth and last goal of the half on a nice breakaway from the right side.
The Burros would score their lone goal in the first half, making the half time score 4-1 Broncos.
The Broncos held the Burros scoreless in the second half.
Bohg scored her second goal off of a corner kick with a great header. Tiara Shoshone put the game away with a goal on a beautiful assist from Sandoval.
“Tiara Shoshone and Bianca Sandoval both played an outstanding game, moving with out the ball and passing beautifully,” said coach Tim Freeman. “The whole team played great, but those two were outstanding.”
The Broncos were overpowered by Eastside High School, a big, fast Division 4 school, Dec. 7 in Antelope Valley.
“We played a pretty good game,” said Freeman. “We made some defensive mistakes under pressure. The Eastside Eagles were either in our face or all over us every time we touched the ball.”
The final score against Eastside was 6-0.
The Broncos recovered quickly from the loss, in time for the Dec. 9 game against the Tehachapi Warriors at home.
The Broncos got off to a good start. Seven minutes into the game, Tillemans scored off a pass from Marjie Patrykus to the left side of the goal which got Tillemans behind the defenders.
The game went back and forth with Bishop moving well.
Tehachapi scored off an extremely long throw-in to a Warrior who headed the ball into the net.
The Warriors kept up the pressure on the Broncos’ end of the field and had several corner kicks, scoring on a nice corner to take the lead at 2-1.
Tillemans was fouled in the penalty area and made the penalty shot. The Broncos went into halftime with a 2-2 tie.
The second half started with the Broncos moving the ball well to the wings. The Warriors would score their final goal, winning the game 3-2.
“The girls played a great game against a good Division 3 team,” said Freeman. “We played them very tough the entire game”
Next up for the Broncos is Tehachapi at the Garces Holiday Soccer Festival on Friday, the largest high school soccer tournament on planet Earth, according to Freeman.
