Norma Kathleen Reynolds
No funeral services have been announced for Norma Kathleen Reynolds.
Born Oct. 16, 1944 in Salina, Utah, Norma, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, suddenly died Dec. 10, 2010 in Bishop. Her untimely and quick death was caused by a blood clot that reached her heart.
Kathy is dearly loved by her family and friends. She was a gentle quiet person and was generous to help anyone in need. When her mother was dying of cancer she devoted herself to comfort her mother and took gentle care of her to the end.
She also loved animals very much and was very kind to the homeless cats; she fed and watered them and provided them with blankets to snuggle and keep warm during the winter. She also loved horses and had the opportunity to visit and ride them occasionally.
Her favorite pastime was hiking in the mountains with her loyal dog Sally. On these walks she sometimes would find a special rock to add to her rock garden. She also enjoyed fishing. She felt her best in the wilderness. Kathy loved researching Native American history; her favortie reading was “Sacagawea.” Her favortie T.V. show was “Survivor,” of course.
She spoke often of her children and grandchildren and said they were her pride and joy and loved them so very much.
Not many people knew that Kathy was also a poet and wrote beautiful poems. It was an honor if she shared them with someone as she insisted she just wrote them just for herself.
Kathy had hardships in her life and overcame them all with dignity and elegance.
“We all will miss her very much, til we meet again,” the family said.
Her only requests were to have her favorite song played at her wake, “Spirit in the Sky” by Norman Greenbaum, and to be cremated and her ashes spread in her beloved mountains.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Stanley and Vynina Barrett; mother, Norma Barrett; brother, Brent Gardner; uncle and aunt, Keith and Vanesse Barrett; stepgrandmother, Iris Barrett; cousin, Holly Barrett; and husband, Durwood Reynolds.
She is survived by her children, Lori and husband Robert Williams, Michael Bettencourt, Tony Bettencourt and Allison Bettencourt; sister and brother-in-law, Holly and Albert Anderson/Merritt; grandchildren and their spouses, Brittany and Tammie Walls, Christopher Williams, Ashley and Byron Bird, Mika Bettencourt, Tyler Bettencourt, Ku’ kuipo Bettencourt and Everett Bettencourt; and great-grandchild, Madelyn Bird.
Anyone who wishes to honor Kathy can make donations to the animal shelters.
