Who doesn’t have time to enjoy the company of good friends along with good food, good wine, good beer, and to enjoy a good time while supporting a very good cause?
Let’s face it, any excuse is a good one for a party and the excuse for this one is Oktoberfest, which is originally a 16-day festival held each year in Munich, Germany, running from late September to early October.
This year, Lone Pine is celebrating by having the festivities at Boulder Creek RV Resort beginning at 6 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 23. Lone Pine resident, bon vivant and Bavarian chef Dave Haas (a.k.a. “Rattlesnake Dave”) is the host and chef for this Bavarian feast.
Proof that the “best things in life are free,” the only request of those attending this celebration is a donation to benefit local youth activities for Healthy Communities of Southern Inyo County and to support the Lone Pine Memorial Plunge renovation.
Haas is putting together a meal of Bratwurst sausage and sauerkraut made with bacon, chopped apples and onions, cooked in chicken broth. Another delicious entrée is a meat-filled pastry called Kraut Bierocks, which is baked pastry dough filled with ground beef, bacon, onions and finely chopped cabbage. Alongside the main dish will be a delicious potato salad made with butter and milk, dill-pickle juice, chopped dill pickles and purple onions, boiled eggs and mustard and mayonnaise. Topping off the meal for dessert was a Cinnamon Apple-filled Crêpes with fresh whipped cream.
So it’s a “first come, first served” evening, according to Haas. Be one of the lucky guests to be served this Bavarian gustatory delight.
