Earl Raymond Duarte
Funeral services will be held for 13-year Lone Pine resident Earl R. Duarte at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Turner Barnes VFW Post 8036 on Gene Autry Lane in Lone Pine. Burial will be private at Mt. Whitney Cemetery.
Born in Long Beach on Aug. 6, 1935, Earl died Oct. 15, 2010 at the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center in Loma Linda. He was 75.
Earl spent some of his childhood years in Laguna Beach. He moved to the city of Campbell in Northern California where he graduated from Campbell High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he spent the next four years. After leaving the U.S. Navy, he started his family, and moved to Arizona where he lived for 21 years. He then moved back to California and started working at Kmart where he met his wife, Linda. He retired from The Jonathan Club in 1997 and then moved to Lone Pine.
Earl enjoyed fishing, gardening and bird watching from his front porch. He was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants. He was the past commander and quartermaster of VFW Post 8036 and president of local AARP Chapter 183. He was the former owner of “Ye Old Candy Shopp” and enjoyed helping tourists while working at Lone Pine Rocks and Gifts. He was always after his wife Linda to make holiday treats to pass around to friends in town.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Alta Duarte; brother, Verne; and granddaughter, Racheal.
Earl is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Richard Kenyon of Glendale, Ariz.; daughters and their partners, Denise DiBacco and Doug Owen of Chino Valley, Ariz. and Karen Duarte and Michael DeMenna of Prescott, Ariz; son, Russell Earl Duarte of Phoenix; grandchildren, Nicole and husband Christopher Spath, Dayna and husband Bill Migdal, Richard Kenyon II, and Stephanie, Anthony, Racheal, Heather, Paige, Calvin, Daniel and Angela; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Julianne and Dominick; cousin, David Bancroft; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Ron Edmundson and Katie and Bryan King; sister-in-law Dena Radford and partner Robert Oswald; nieces and nephews, April, Andrew, Benjamin, Amanda, Jake and Tyler; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Breanna, Alyssia, Kaleb and Clarissa.
