The Bishop High Junior Varsity took a 22-13 loss in its last non-league game against the Bishop’s Knights of La Jolla.
The Knights started strong scoring on their opening drive of Friday’s game to lead 6-0.
The Broncos’ offense countered with a balanced drive to take a 7-6 lead. Ryan Devore capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. Chris Frohreich connected on the point after giving the Broncos the halftime lead.
The Knights recorded 2 TDs in the third quarter, one on a Broncos turnover, grabbing a 22-7 lead.
The Broncos rallied back with a touchdown drive on big plays from Curran Simpson, Evan Richman and Kyle Batchelder. Simpson ran for 51 yards to move the ball into Knights territory and Batchelder connected with Richman on a 36-yard pass to set up the score. Batchelder completed the drive with a quarterback sneak to move the score to 22-13. The point after was blocked keeping the Knights lead at two possessions. The Broncos onside kick was recovered by the Knights ending the game.
“The boys played hard but just couldn’t overcome a strong Knights team,” said coach Arnie Palu. “We will have a great week of practice and come out ready to play Friday when league play begins. Our team goal is to win the High Desert League championship. We start that journey Friday.”
The Bronco JV end non-league play with a 2-2 record.
The Broncos begin league play Friday against California City.
