Bishop’s Lady Broncos played tough Tuesday in volleyball action against the California City Ravens but fell 0-3.
The first two games were nail biters at 22-25 and 24-26. “Our girls played great,” said coach Sheri Sonke. “The games were exciting and the team is starting to gain confidence and really play well together.”
The Ravens scored 11 straight unanswered points in the final game before the Broncos rallied. Bishop came back to a close 15-20 but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
In game one, the Broncos and Ravens traded points, with Bishop taking the lead at 8-7 on a Lakota Mikulicich serve.
The Ravens battled back to an 11-11 tie, then pulled ahead 14-19.
Again, the Broncos came back strong on Tyler McMurtrie’s serve taking the lead 20-19.
But the Ravens answered with a four-point scoring streak, taking the win on an out-of-bounds Bishop serve.
Bishop showed early strength in game two with a six-point scoring streak on Mikulicich’s serve. Olivia Waterson hammered the ball past the Ravens to take a 7-6 lead. A masterful block at the net by Gabby Robertson took the Broncos’ advantage to 10-6.
California City took the lead back at 14-15. The Broncos stayed close, tying the game at 24-24, but the Ravens pulled out the stops with the final 2 points.
The Lady Broncos take to the road today against Frazier Mountain and Tuesday at Kern Valley.
