The City of Bishop’s vote on whether to support a statewide phase-out of plastic shopping bags has again been postponed.
A poll of the City Council Monday evening revealed an even split down the middle with two members in favor of supporting SB 405 and two members against it. The deciding vote belonged to Councilman Keith Glidewell, who was absent.
Glidewell was the one who recommended postponing the vote at the Nov. 25 council meeting until officials had a chance to gauge the sentiments of the local business community. True to his word, he worked with the Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce on developing an online survey for Bishop area retailers, the results of which were provided to council members in their Jan. 13 agenda packets.
