Honored for decades of incalculable service to valley residents during their final days on earth, Hospice of the Owens Valley volunteers were the last but not the least to be awarded in 2013 with the City of Bishop’s Quarterly Citizens Award.
For 30 years, HOV, which is now a Pioneer Home Health Care program, has been providing “the dignity, privacy and comfort” of allowing people to die in their own homes, said Laura Smith, then mayor and now council member, when she presented the award at the Dec. 9 City Council meeting.
The council honored current active HOV volunteers Christina Davis, Rae Barnes, Alice Wolfson, Terry and Tom Maupin, Pat Hooper, Marga Foote, Roberta Cummings, Valerie Hart, Paul Linder and Leslie Opp, as well as ongoing clinical volunteer Dr. Tom Boo of Northern Inyo Hospital. Former volunteers D.J. Clough, Joyce Hafner, Marylou Sipherd, Joyce Watt and Ann Zack were also mentioned.
