Bishop’s Lady Broncos soccer team stayed perfect for the season with a 3-1 win over the Mammoth Lady Huskies at home last Friday.
“It was a little bit one-sided,” said co-coach Cathy McKinley. “We really should have put more balls in the back of the net. But, we played hard as a team and, for the most part, kept our heads in the game.”
Bishop/Mammoth soccer games are always lively and this one was no exception. McKinley was appreciative of the fact Bronco boosters were a “great positive crowd.”
Community support went one step further on an exceptionally cold night. Looney Bean donated a pot of hot chocolate to the team.
The Broncos dominated possession for most of the first half with goals coming from Bishop’s speedy forward Carissa Duro and the second from midfielder Alicia Campos.
“We went into the second half determined to put at least one more goal in,” said McKinely. That goal came off of the foot of Brenda Gonzalez, her second this season.
“The game got a little scrappy in the second half and they were able to score,” said McKinley.
Gabi Morales had 2 saves, Duro had 3 shots on goal, Gonzalez had 4, Campos had 2 with the final shot from Kailyn Boxley.
“It was a team win,” said McKinley. “The girls have committed themselves to playing hard for each other and for the team.”
The Broncos will be checking out the Central Section competition this weekend at the Corcoran Tournament.
