The nationwide holiday shopping blitz known as Black Friday kicks off tomorrow – and at some national retailers, tonight – with deals at big box stores across the U.S. But in the Eastern Sierra, community leaders are asking residents to think local first.
In Inyo County, businesses ranging from the Lone Pine Film History Museum to Dwayne’s Friendly Pharmacy are offering holiday shopping opportunities on Friday, followed by the locally celebrated Small Business Saturday counterpart to Black Friday.

When You Shop Locally
Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce Director Tawni Thomson said that she is planning to shop locally this holiday season for a number of reasons. For one, she said, local businesses support local charities and community service efforts. For another, shopping locally helps the local economy. It has been said that a dollar spent in the community circulates up to seven times before it is spent out of the area.
But most of all, Thomson is asking residents of Inyo County to consider the sales tax they pay on all purchases this year.
