Mary Trim, known to her family and close friends as “Tweety,” was born on Feb. 28, 1945 and grew up in North Carolina. Tweety heroically fought a battle with her lungs over the last three years. She never gave up, rarely complained and maintained a brave outlook for the future even with countless trips to the hospital, respiratory treatments and tons of daily medications. Tweety loved nothing more than being with her husband, children and grandchildren. They were the light of her life and the wind beneath her wings.
Tweety passed peacefully surrounded by her husband and children at Renown Hospital on Oct. 23, 2013.
Mary met the love of her life, Bob Trim in the late sixties. They were married on Nov. 23, 1971 and raised three children together. They raised their family around Lake Tahoe, and enjoyed all that the Lake Tahoe area had to offer. Tweety loved her view of Lake Tahoe from her home and enjoying the beautiful Tahoe sunset.
Tweety loved animals and nothing meant more to her than her Maltese dogs. They were her pride and joy. I’m sure many of you met Tweety and her dog Marjie who went everywhere with her. Mary was a member of the South Tahoe Woman’s League and served as president for two years. She was passionate about serving others. She would give you the clothes off her back if you asked for them. Nothing made her happier than to give to others, whether it was a stranger in need, her nieces and nephews or her children and beloved grandchildren.
Mary loved Tweety Bird …enough so that we all started calling her Tweety. She has so many Tweety clothes, toys and collectables. Tweety also loved NASCAR and was a HUGE fan of Jeff Gordon. She watched every race that was televised and had a special hat and shirt she wore for every race. She also loved reality TV and reading all the gossip magazines.
Mary was an impressive and talented artist. She made beautiful full size carousel horses. Her carousel horses were sold in art boutiques around Lake Tahoe and in Tiburon. She also enjoyed painting, drawing and writing poetry. Her creativity and talent was endless.
Tweety is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bob Trim; and her three children, Jason of Truckee, Jordan of Bishop and Ashleigh of South Lake Tahoe. She considered Jason’s wife Noel and Jordan’s wife Shauna her daughters. Tweety’s pure joy was her nine grandchildren, Zac, Nic, Kenyon, Madi, Mason, Deekon, Nevaeh, Jacob and her newest grandson coming in February. She is also survived by her four siblings, Dr. Ira Hardy of Raleigh, N.C., Ann Hopkins of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Martha George of Greenville, N.C. and Edwina Shaw of Greenville, N.C. and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Kitty Holt; father, Jessie Hardy; stepfather, Harry Holt; nephew, Skipper Hardy; and many beloved pets.
On behalf of the entire Trim family, we would like to thank all Mary’s wonderful doctors, Patty Booker, the staff at Barton Memorial Hospital, the amazing staff and doctors at Renown Hospital and the Barton Memorial Hospice for their compassion and care during this difficult time. We would also like to thank Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner and Harrah’s Lake Tahoe for all their kindness, love and support.
A celebration of Tweety’s life will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 at Friday’s Station inside Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. All are welcome.
