Maurice “Mickey” Joseph Lowry, 85, of June Lake, passed away Oct. 1, 2013 in Bishop. He was born June 20, 1928 in Steubenville, Ohio and resided in Las Vegas for more than 50 years before retiring to June Lake. Mickey married twice. His first wife was Benita Braningan, his second wife was Catherine Lowry. He fathered two daughters and one son from his first marriage. He served in the U.S. Army. Maurice worked as a carpenter, mostly at the Nevada Test Site, for the Las Vegas chapter of the Carpenters Union and, upon retiring, received the Brotherhood of Carpenters 50-year pin. As head coach for St. Joseph’s Catholic School football team, he led his boys to a major championship. Mickey was very active in the religious community, volunteering often at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. He had a great zest for life and enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Geraldine Lowry; and sister, Elizabeth “Betty Mettenberger.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth (Robert) Palmer and Teresa (James) Childs; son, John Lowry; and longtime companion, Margaret “Maggie” Cano. Mickey also leaves behind five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City. Father Francis Timoney will officiate. Interment will follow.
