Donna Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Allred
Donna Jacqueline “Jackie” Allred passed away at home after a 10-year battle with cancer on Nov. 4, 2013. Jackie was born on March 17, 1936 in Los Angeles to John and Rosemary Harris. She was raised in Montebello. She married Gary Allred and raised their family in Hacienda Heights before moving to Bishop in 1996.
Jackie’s life was always about giving to others. She served as her children’s Cub Scout Den Mother for more than 12 years, as well as Campfire Girl Leader for six years. As her children grew up, she continued giving through her daughter Sheri’s color guard and drill teams, both in Southern California and Bishop. Most notably, she designed, sewed, and altered more than 150 outfits for the Bishop Colts in Motion and Summer Dance Production. Home Street Middle School recognized her dedication by naming her Volunteer of the Year.
She took great pride and pleasure in her family, their activities and community events. Her happiest times were when she was surrounded by her entire family. And, you could always find her smiling face at the Home Street Middle School events, Choo Choo Swap Meet, Tri-County Fair and her grandkids’ sporting events and activities, up to her final weeks.
She is survived by her twin sister, Diane “Jeanie” Hunter and husband Don, formerly of Bishop; sons, Larry Allred of Walnut, Jerry Allred and wife Lisa of Carson City, Nev., Gary Allred and wife Shellie of Moreno Valley; daughter, Sheri Sonke and husband Dave of Bishop; grandchildren, Tricia and husband Ryan, Eric, Josh and fiancée Jennifer, Jerry G.A. and fiancée Linda, Jason, Jamie LeeAnn, Staci and Scott; and great-grandchildren, Cole, Ell and Paige.
In keeping with Jackie’s giving spirit, in lieu of flowers, the family is asking that anyone touched by Jackie’s life “Pay It Forward” by performing an act of kindness in her honor.
There will be a celebration of life from 2-6 p.m. at the Sonke residence on Nov. 17.
