The Bishop Lady Broncos tennis team claimed the High Desert League championship with a 13-5 win over the Kern Valley Broncs Thursday.
In singles’ action, Laura Rossy won 6-0, 6-1, with one 4-6 loss. Gabby Morales swept at 6-3, 6-0, 6-0.
“Kerisa (Isaac) had a great match against Kern’s number three seed,” said coach Patty Cummings. Isaac won, 6-3, but lost the next two 0-6, 1-6.
Jenelle Rafferty and Kelly Pfeiler won all three of their doubles’ sets, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. Katie Tanksley and Tessa Wright won 6-4, 6-1; Bronwyn Stephenson and Taylor Stoll won 7-5, 6-2 but lost the final third set 2-6. Ivy Means and Evelyn Lopez faced KV’s second seed doubles pair. “They played well,” said Cummings, but lost 0-6.
Six Lady Broncos will be headed to the CIF Central Section individuals play-off Nov. 1: doubles pairs Wright and Tanksley, Stoll and Stephenson and singles Morales and Pfeiler with Rossy as the alternate.
