The Boron Bobcats headed to Lone Pine Thursday afternoon and left with their collective tails tucked between their legs. The Lady Golden Eagles volleyball team beat the Bobcats 3-1.
“We used a balanced attacking game and scrappy defense to keep the upper hand,” said coach Mel Joseph. “We played with determination in games one and two.” Lone Pine won the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-21.
The Eagles fell back on their heels in game three, losing to the Bobcats 19-25.
Game four was a seesaw battle with neither team allowing more than a 1-point lead until the game was tied at 23. “Momentum changed throughout game four,” said Joseph. “It was difficult for either team to create more than a 2-point separation.”
The Bobcats blinked first, allowing a service error late in the game that gave Lone Pine a 24-23 lead. Lone Pine shanked a Bobcat return on their first contact at match point but was able to get the ball back over the net deep into an uncovered portion of the Boron backcourt to seal the deal for the 25-23 win. Lone Pine was outstanding at the service line going 97 percent with 90/93 as a team.
The Eagles varsity team heads to Mojave Tuesday to take on the Mustangs.
