Bishop Unified School District Superintendent Barry Simpson had planned on doing a PowerPoint presentation of pros and cons to help the Board of Trustees decide where Broncos athletes will go for CIF playoff games this coming school year.
“I decided against it,” Simpson said at Thursday’s board meeting. “There weren’t a whole lot of pros.”
Nevertheless, the board voted to move with five of the six members of its High Desert League from the Southern Section to the Central Section, basically the San Joaquin Valley. Desert High School had already deserted HDL in favor of the Desert Mountain League where Lone Pine and Mammoth currently compete.
CIF, the governing organization for California high school intramural athletic programs, divides schools into 10 sections. The HDL had been part of the highly competitive, 575-school Southern Section but will now be in the 100-school Central Section.
