In yet another sign that summer is on its way to the Eastern Sierra, Caltrans has removed the packed winter snow, cleared the debris and made the necessary repairs to open State Route 108 over Sonora Pass.
“The diligent work of Caltrans crews enabled the opening of the pass for motorists who utilize this route,” said Public Information Officer Florene Trainor. “Caltrans crews responsible for the pass opening extend their best wishes for safe summer traveling to those who enjoy the recreational opportunities this part of California has to offer.”
Tioga Pass, meanwhile, was previously cleared of snow and debris up to the eastern-entrance gate of Yosemite National Park.
The National Park Service is expected to begin plowing the road on the other side of the gate on April 29, with a projected opening for the entire road of May 11.
