The Bishop Broncos junior varsity baseball team ran rings around the Rosamond Roadrunners at home Tuesday. The 10-0 win maintains the Broncos perfect league season.
“The boys are getting the proper work in at practice and it shows,” said coach Chris Walston. “I couldn’t be happier with how they’re playing.”
Bronco Thomas Montoya pitched four and two-thirds innings with 11 strikeouts and 1 walk. Alex Armitage came in in the bottom of the fourth to finish out the game with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.
The Broncos’ offense took off immediately with 3 runs in the first. Jake Traynor was 3 for 3 with an RBI. Jeremy Fie was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI. Willie Lee came in again with clutch hitting throughout the game with a single and the last hit of the game scoring Fie and ending the game on the mercy rule.

Broncos JV Softball
The Lady Broncos JV softball team ran out of time Tuesday at home against Rosamond, taking a 10-13 loss in the sixth when the game was called.
“We had one bad inning that ate up a lot of time,” said coach Patty Cummings. “We committed six errors defensively. I believe we would have come back in the bottom of the seventh but there just wasn’t enough time to finish the game.
“The good news is after the first round in High Desert League, the girls are in a three-way tie for first place. I’m pretty proud of them for that. They have really come together as a team and they continue to work hard every day.”
Defensively Morgan Cunha did the pitching with 1 strikeout and no walks.
Junior Shelby Hess had another strong game defensively with 9 put outs.
The JV squad put on one serious show last Friday at Kern Valley, bringing home an 11-10 win, decided with the final out in the seventh inning.
Rubie Manuelito got things started with a walk in the first. Sabrina Barlow and Jordan Frankson singled and Shelby Logan brought Manuelito home with a base hit giving Bishop a 1-0 lead.
Strong defense from Cunah, Logan, Hess and Barlow held KV scoreless but the Broncs came back in the second with 3 runs on 2 hits and 3 Bishop errors to take a 2-3 lead.
Kern was ahead 3-5 after five innings when Bishop turned it on with 5 runs on 3 walks, KV errors and hits from Tailer Marks, Tiarney Andreas. Bishop took over the lead 8-5.
In the top of the seventh, Logan hit a 2 RBI homerun. Marks reached on an error; Hess followed scoring Marks to give Bishop a more comfortable 11-5 lead.
That lead looked a little less comfortable in the bottom of the seventh. Kern rallied with 5 runs on 3 hits and 4 Bronco errors. With 2 outs and the tying run on second, Cunha struck out the ninth batter to end the game and secure the Bishop win at 11-10.
