Marvin Gene Shuey
Marvin Shuey was born Aug. 19, 1935 in Gillespie, Ill. Marvin was the ninth child of George and Lula Shuey.
Marvin spent his youth growing up in southern Illinois fishing, hunting and playing baseball. He loved all things outdoors.
Marvin spent 4 years in the U.S. Navy serving his country and was proud of his service.
Marvin met Brandeen McKenzie in 1956 and they were married later that year. Marvin and Brandy had three children and moved to Bishop in 1966. Marvin worked for the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier until 1986. Marvin and Brandy moved to Lone Pine in 1987. Then Marvin went on to work for Inyo-Mono Dial-a-Ride, where he became the DOT trainer for new drivers. He retired from Dial-a-Ride in 2007 to spend more time with his the love of his life, Brandy.
Marvin loved working in his yard, wood working, all sorts of general handicrafts, bird watching, fishing, spending time with his family and grandchildren and especially Cardinals Baseball. Marvin volunteered some of his time with the Senior Center.
Marv will be missed by his family and friends and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Brandy Shuey; his parents; three brothers and three sisters.
Marvin is survived by daughter, Marva Rife and her husband, Daniel; daughter, Corrine Shuey and her husband, Nicholas Neff and son, Wesley and his wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Christopher Rife (Summer), Brandy Adams (Jarred), Kiel Shuey (Veronica) and Mathew Shuey; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters; bother-in-law and wife, Ronald and Carole McKenzie; sister- in-law, Ella Mae Burke; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 at the Church of the Nazarene in Lone Pine. A celebration of life with a light lunch will be held after the service at Marvin’s home in Lone Pine. Donations in Marvin’s name can be made to the Church of the Nazarene in Lone Pine.
