After a non-start to their basketball season, the Bishop Broncos are off and running with wins over Mineral County on the road Tuesday.
Bishop’s home-opener against the Mojave Mustangs, scheduled for last Friday, was cancelled when U.S. 395 was closed to high-profile vehicles due to high winds.
The Lady Broncos are now 1-1, following a loss to the Div. 3A Burroughs Burros and a 51-35 win against the Serpents.
The Broncos beat the Serpents 49-42, a solid win for a young team.
“For the first game of the year,” said coach Ben Arcularius, “I thought the team performed well.”
The Broncos held the Serpents to 2 points in the first quarter and a total of 10 points in the first half, taking an early lead.
“We fought some foul trouble and a lack of focus in the second half,” said Arcularius, “but got some nice help from the bench. To cut your teeth with a win on the road in a tough place to play is always nice.”
Today, the Broncos head to Dayton, Nev. for the Sutro Classic before traveling to Lone Pine Tuesday, Dec. 11 to take on the Eagles.
Cy Scott: 23 pts., 16 rebs., 3 steals, 2 blocks
Carl Olsen: 10 pts., 7 rebs., 3 assists

The Lady Broncos got off to a slow start, offensively, against the Serpents Tuesday night.
Bishop’s defense held Mineral County to a slim 9 points through the first half. Bishop went into the lockerroom with a 17-9 lead.
The offense kicked in big time in the final two quarters, matching the 17-point first half in both quarters for the 51-35 win.
Seniors Katelyne Lent and Shiloh Smith led the Broncos with 15 points each.
Bishop travels to Reno today for the High Sierra Winter Challenge, facing Elko in the “night-cap” at 7:30 p.m., then it’s on to Lone Pine Tuesday.
