The Bishop JV softball team took on the Lee Vining varsity Lady Tigers last Thursday in a lop-sided 0-10 loss.
“We had to adjust our defense and offense due to injuries and illnesses,” said coach Patty Cummings. The timing couldn’t have been worse as Lee Vining always fields strong teams.
“Tailer Marks did a great job at shortstop as did Tiarney Andreas at catcher and Tamia Shoshone on the mound,” Cummings said.
Shoshone struck out six, had two walks; the Broncos defense committed four errors.
Offensively, the Broncos had trouble getting the ball into play. At the top of the first, Shoshone reached base on a Tiger error. The next two batters struck out. Next up, Shelby Logan sent the ball far into left field, but it was picked off by a Tiger for the final out.
Bishop’s Kristin Kubiak reached first in the fourth inning, on a walk, but was left on base with the final ground out.
In the fifth, Shelby Hess made contact with a fly ball into right field, but the Lee Vining fielder turned it into the final out of the game.
The Broncos travel to Paraclete this Thursday before starting High Desert League play April 10 at California City.
