The Bishop Lady Broncos JV softball team scored a 9-2 win over Burroughs at Ridgecrest Saturday, ending the day with a loss in game two.
“The girls played the best I’ve seen them play so far,” said coach Patty Cummings. “The umpire even commented on how great the first game was for both teams.”
Shelby Logan started Bishop’s scoring drive in the first inning with a single. Sacrifice flies by Mariah Brooks and Korina Toledo moved Logan into scoring position and Tiarney Andreas’ single brought her home.
The Broncos added 2 more runs in the second. With Tamia Shoshone and Kristin Kubiak on base with singles, Logan sent a 2 RBI triple flying.
Burroughs narrowed the lead to 3-2 in the fourth but Bishop put the game away in the sixth with a 2 RBI double from Toledo for a 5-2 lead.
Bishop iced the cake in the seventh with singles from Tailer Marks and Andreas and doubles off the bats of Brooks and Logan and a 9-2 final score.
Bishop struggled to a 1-18 loss in game two.
Down 1-5 in the bottom of the fourth, starting pitcher Toledo was pulled with an injury. Freshman Shoshone took over on the mound.
With a combination of walks, defensive errors and only 4 hits, Burroughs added 13 more runs in the inning, ending the game with the mercy rule after five innings.
“The girls all worked together to get through this tough inning,” said Cummings. “They supported each other through every play.”
