The Lady Broncos JV softball squad went 2-1-1 at last weekend’s Yerington Tournament. The wins were routs with huge margins of 16-2 and 19-6
Bishop tied Lee Vining, 2-2 and was behind in its final game with Yerington when it was called at the tourney time limit.
“The tournament really helped the girls to gain experience and get ready for league play,” said coach Patty Cummings. “It gave us a chance to see all the girls’ strengths so we can put them together to make winning combinations.”
Cummings noted that only three of her team are returners; the balance are new players. “They did an awesome job this weekend and should be as proud of themselves as the coaches are of them” said Cummings.
Bishop whooped Dayton 16-2, then did the same to South Tahoe, 19-6 to get the tournament off to a rousing start. Yerington was ahead 2-7 over Bishop when the game was called.
Korina Toledo was the starting pitcher for the weekend with Tamia Shoshone also getting some time on the mound. “Both girls are freshman with a lot of talent,” said Cummings. “They are going to be strong the next three years.”
The JV team is now 5-1-1 and faces Lone Pine’s varsity this Friday, before a double-header against Lee Vining on Saturday.
