Bishop’s defense against KV was strong in the second half, but the team’s offense never really kicked in.
Kern Valley went ahead 15-0 with Bishop’s first point, a free throw from Jerry Castillo, coming with two minutes left in the quarter.
That point opened up an 8-point drive by Bishop, ending with a 3-pointer from Jarred Ruelas.
The Broncos ended the quarter down by 9 at 8-17, a point deficit they never could close.
Bishop opened the second quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers from Kyle Miller and Ruelas. Then, Kern Valley ran up 10 unanswered points, ending the half with an 11-point advantage at 24-35.
The Broncos outscored Kern Valley by 3 points in the third quarter. The defense held KV to single-digit scores in the half, but the hole was too deep.
Bishop is tied for third place with Rosamond; the top three league teams are guaranteed a spot in the CIF playoffs. Bishop faces Rosamond tonight at 7:30 p.m. on home court and the HDL-leading Desert Scorpions come to town Thursday.
