Local law enforcement officials are on the look-out for a suspicious individual that was reportedly taking photographs of young children playing at Owens Valley School Sunday, Jan. 15.
According to Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Carma Roper, the department received a report Tuesday of an adult male in a white pick-up truck taking photos of the children.
Roper said the report came from a parent of one of the children and deputies do not currently have a description of the man, or license plate number for the vehicle.
“According to the reporting party, a white pick-up truck with a ‘You Could Be Famous’ decal across the tailgate pulled up next to a small group of children who were playing on the school playground equipment,” a press release from the Sheriff’s Department states. “The man reportedly told the children that he was famous and could be seen on TV, and that he could make them famous too if he could take photos of them.”
Roper added that the children were reportedly afraid, and notified their parents of the encounter.
Roper said the department is asking anyone with information regarding the vehicle or driver to contact the Sheriff’s Department at (760) 878-0395.
“The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office is reminding parents and educators that there is no time like the present to engage in healthy dialog with children about not talking to strangers and safety,” the press release states.
