Lawrence Roane Weisenberg
Roane was born Feb. 2, 1954 in Richmond, Va. to Frank Weisenberg and Jean K. “O’Cano.” He is survived by his loving wife of more than 11 years, April “Whitlock” Weisenberg.
Roane was a gentle soul, always with a smile on his face, he knew no strangers. Roane’s mission in life was to teach the world about Love, Friendship, Kindness, Gentleness and Truthfulness.
He spent most of his life in Bishop, graduating from Bishop Union High School in 1972. He worked many jobs over the years in restaurants and in the California Conservation Corps. Roane served as a volunteer fireman for nearly 10 years; he was proud of his service. He had a passion for CB radios and electronics.
Roane was a member of the Bishop Paiute Tribe, and well loved by friends and family members.
He is survived by his wife, April “Whitlock” Weisenberg; his mother, Jean; sister, April McMurtrie; and brothers, Kendall and Spencer. Roane is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws. Roane babysat many of his nieces and nephews who are: Cody “McMurtrie” Waltman, Amy, Riley and Dalton McMurtrie, and Kaylee and Jory Weisenberg.
Roane’s passing happened quickly. He was diagnosed with esophagus cancer in mid-July. Even during the final week of his life, he remained in good humor. He handled his illness with grace and dignity. Roane passsed away Oct. 8, 2011 at his mother-in-law’s home in Menifee.
A traditional cry dance will be held for Roane on Friday, Oct. 28. His memorial service will be at the Oasis-of-Grace Foursquare Church at 528 Central Ave. in Bishop. The service will be led by minister and family friend Dee Dee Costello at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Potluck to follow in the church fellowship hall.
