Dorothy DeLand, 92, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2011 at Northern Inyo Hospital in Bishop, Calif. after a brief illness. She had been a resident of Bishop for more than a decade.
Dorothy was born on Feb. 13, 1919 to John and Ruth “Agnes” DeLand in Osecola, Neb. She moved to California during World War II and worked as a riveter at Hughes Aircraft for the duration of the war. She later worked in the accounting departments at Kelly Blue Book and Toyota. She retired at the age of 70 and moved to Texas, later moving to Bishop to be close to family and friends.
Her three brothers, Francis, Dean and Jack, preceded Dorothy in death. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Lois and Ruth, as well as many nieces and nephews and their children.
In Bishop, she was a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, volunteered at the Hospice Thrift Shop and was a loving and caring friend and family member.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 162 Sneden St. in Bishop. A luncheon will follow the service.
Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s name to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
