The Bishop Lady Broncos softball teams came home from Rosamond Tuesday with a JV win and a varsity loss.
The final league games will be played today against the Desert Scorpions.
It took just five innings for the JV team to beat the Roadrunners, 15-4.
The trouncing went a long way to avenge the Broncos’ 16-11 loss to Rosamond in mid-April. That loss was the last defeat for the Broncos who head to the final league game today at Desert with a 6-2 record, 14-3 overall.
“We’re proud of how hard the girls have been working for the last few weeks, both offensively and defensively,” said coaching staff Patty Cummings and Sally Waterbury in a press release. “It has paid off as they continue to improve each week.”
The JV team went into the match-up with Rosamond with a hard-fought 7-4 win over Kern Valley in Bishop’s final home game last week.
Whitney Hersley got things started in the first inning with a base hit, going 1 for 4 for the game and scoring a run. Hersley was also sharp on defense with a double play to end the third inning.
Other offensive standouts were Shiloh Smith with a home run in the sixth. Taylor Hartshorn went 3 for 3, scoring a run and 1 RBI. Brook Callahan was 1 for 3 with a run; Yadira Cruz, 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI; Monique Jaurequi went 2 for 3 for the day.
Callahan pitched all seven innings, striking out 7 and walking 2.
The varsity team had a tougher time getting out of Rosamond alive. The Broncos were shut out by the Roadrunners with a 0-14 loss.
“We were simply out hit by a very aggressive team,” said coach Stacy Van Nest.
The Broncos fall to 3-6 in league, 9-11 overall.
Brooke Callahan pitched 5 innings, with 8 strikeouts, 3 hits, 8 walks and 1 hit batter.
