The Lone Pine Golden Eagles track team headed to Boron April 13 for a five-way Desert Mountain League meet.
Lone Pine competed against Silver Valley, Vasquez, Mojave and Boron.
Josafat Luna claimed two wins in the boys’ hurdles events.
Emmanuel Castro took first in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:29 as well as a second in the 400.
Jareth Eaton’s 5-6 high jump was a first-place effort.
Castro, Eaton and Luna were also on the boys’ 400 meter relay team, along with Sawyer Entwistle. The team took second place.
Genesee Lucia placed second in the girls’ discus.
The meet was plagued with the same winds that blasted through Southern Inyo County, gusting to 40 mph in Boron. “The winds made a mess of times and distances,” said Lone Pine track coach Dale Newell. “But track and field athletes are a bit odd, so the Eagles actually enjoyed the misery.”
The team’s next meet is the DML preliminaries at Antelope Valley College, Wednesday, April 27.
