A grim discovery in a remote region of southeastern Inyo County has authorities searching for answers.
Sheriff’s investigators are attempting to piece together clues that may lead to a positive ID and possibly even cause of death for a body found late last week near Pahrump, Nev.
An individual recreating in the desert last Friday located what are said to be skeletal remains in a remote area west of Pahrump.
According to Inyo County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Carma Roper, “the remains were fairly deteriorated, so they could have been out there for months.”
Roper said the person who discovered the remains was riding a quad on a motorcycle trail just inside Inyo County on the Nevada state line.
Initially, the person who discovered the remains notified the Nye County Sheriff’s Department. When Nye County deputies arrived on the scene, they immediately notified the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, saying that the remains are located in Inyo.
It is unclear at this time if the deceased was the victim of foul play or if he or she died of natural causes.
“This is considered an open investigation, and we haven’t ruled anything out,” Roper said.
The remains are currently in the possession of Inyo County Coroner Leon Brune, who is trying to determine the identity of the deceased.
No further details about the case are being released.
