The Bishop Lady Broncos basketball squad avenged an early tournament loss to Mineral County High from Hawthorne, Nev. Tuesday night with a 55-23 rout.
“The game went well,” said coach Gerald Howard. “We played very well. Things are really coming together.”
The team struggled with free throws early in the season, but hit 75 percent from the line against Hawthorne.
“We’re 6-4 in pre-league,” said Howard. “If we’d been hitting our free throw shots like we did Tuesday, we’d be 9-1.”

The Bishop Broncos didn’t fare as well, losing to Hawthorne 59-36.
“We hung in there until the third quarter,” said coach Jon Michener, “but we were a step late.”
Six football Broncos joined the basketball squad just three days after winning the CIF Championship. “We were a little rusty,” said Michener, “But we played pretty well. The one thing I can’t fault the team on is effort. They gave a great effort. If we can build on that, we’ll be OK.”
The Broncos go into the Bishop Christmas Classic Dec. 27, then league play starts after the first of the year.
