Broncos’ football coach Bill Egan is not taking this first CIF playoff game Friday against the Mojave Mustangs for granted.
“Mojave is a good team,” he said. “They have a good coach, they’re well-prepared. It should be a much better game.” Then again, Egan has anticipated “good games” from Kern Valley, Rosamond and Desert.
Mojave and Bishop are not strangers. Mojave was part of the HDL until 2008. “I know the Mojave coach,” Egan said, “and they know our program.”
Mojave finished league play in fourth spot with a 6-4 overall record, 3-3 in league. The three league losses were to the top three seeds in the Desert Mountain League, Boron, Vasquez and Desert Christian.
“The Desert Mountain league has some good teams; it’s a very competitive league,” Egan said.
The Broncos will have a deeper bench Friday night as players from the junior varsity (Corey Thomson, Kyle Batchelder, Evan Richman, Curran Simpson, Ryan Devore, Edgar Jimenez and Roman Amisone) will be moving up.
The game starts at 7 p.m. Friday at John Schwab Field.
