Bishop AYSO teams score big at area tourney

Bishop AYSO teams won six of their age-level division championships at the Kit Carson Area F soccer tournament in Carson City, Nov. 6-7.
“Bishop AYSO has spent the past five years developing their youth soccer training programs beginning at U5 level,” said Joe Griego, AYSO regional referee administrator. “The depth of young talent has produced great success across all age groups. For the first time, Bishop teams have won championships for both boys and girls Sierra division at U12, U15, and U19 levels.”
Bishop competes each year against teams from Area F, which includes Sparks, Fallon, Carson City and Carson Valley, Nev, as well as Incline Village, North Lake Tahoe, South Lake Tahoe, Truckee and Mammoth Lakes. One-hundred-seventy-three players were selected this year as Bishop AYSO all-stars.
The championship teams were:
U12 Girls: Sierra division, Coach Joe Griego (see photo)
U12 Boys: Sierra division, Coach Luis Martinez.
U12 Boys: Cascade division, Coach Javier Ruiz, Team members: Gilberto Alcazar, Jordan Herbst, Carlos Laguna, Jorge Martinez, Gerardo Mendez, Patrick Mitton, Alberto Moreno, Trevor Murphy, Alejandro Ruiz, Diego Solorio, Alan Torres-Campos and Mario Velasco.
U15 Boys: Sierra division, Coach Greg Alexander. Team members: Elijah Alexander, Alexis Barajas, Joseph Domke, Luis Gurrola, Shahzeb Khan, Daniel Martinez, Jose Mendez, Evan Meneses, Christopher Molina, Irving Perez, Alejandro Sanchez, Hector Santana, Chino Santana and Iriel Santana.
U15 Girls: Sierra division, Coach Oscar Morales.
U19 Co-ed: Coaches Manny Santana and Rebecca Andreas, no photo or roster were available at press time.
In addition to these six championship teams, several others advanced to the semifinals or finals.
The U12 Girls Cascade team, coached by Saul Ojeda, and the U15 Boys Cascade team, coached by Chuy Gonzalez, took second place in their divisions.
