Charles ‘Chuck’ Potterville

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Highlands Mobile Home Park Adult Community Building for Charles “Chuck” Potterville.
Born July 25, 1927 in Salida, Colo. to Fred and Jessie Potterville, Chuck died peacefully at his home on Oct. 21, 2010 surrounded by his family and friends. He was 83.
Chuck’s family relocated to Southern California when he was very young. He went into the Merchant Marines at the age of 16 and served during World War II. He was also in the Army during the Korean War.
Chuck worked his entire life as a Union Carpenter, retiring at the age of 64 from Carpenter Local 743 in Bakersfield. One needs only to drive around Bishop to see the results of his work, or up the four-lane highway north or down south as well.
Chuck met his wife, Betty, in Bishop in 1958 and they were married in 1960. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in April of this year.
Chuck loved the outdoors – hunting, fishing and camping – but best of all he loved dirt bike riding and rode well into his 70s. He is a lifetime member of the Bishop Sneakers Motorcycle Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Marjory Morris and June Phillips.
Chuck was an extraordinary man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Mary Anderson of Atascadero; daughters, Marti Poole of Fontana and Jeri Potterville of Upland; stepson, Larry Shipe and his wife Pat of Monroe, Wash.; stepdaughter, Susan Logan of Bishop; grandsons, Bill Huston and wife Audra of Big Pine, Dan Huston and wife Roxanne of Yuma, Ariz. and Bob Logan of Lake Tahoe; granddaughters, Janet Fraser and husband Jason of Snohomish, Wash. and Cindy Shipe of Bellview, Wash; and great-grandchildren, Bill, Jr., Anna, Danny and Joe Huston, Grace and Maureen McClenaghan, Brenna Huston, Kylie Logan and Sydney and Georgie Fraser.
