Jessaline B. Fetterman
A memorial will be held in Bishop, in the spring of 2011 for Jessaline B. Fetterman.
Born in Minneapolis, Minn. on March 20, 1915 to Charles Walter Grafft and Neva Belle (Briggs) Grafft, Jessaline B. Fetterman, passed away on October 10, 2010. She was 95.
The family, which included Jessaline’s three older brothers, Lloyd, Clarence and Harold moved from Minneapolis to Illinois. The family later moved from Lombard, Ill. to Long Beach, where she attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School.
After high school, Jessaline was asked to sing with a number of “Big Bands” that played at many venues through out Southern California with a few trips to San Francisco. It was while she was singing that she met a trumpet player who would eventually ask for her hand in marriage.
Jessaline married Leon Simon in 1939. Together they raised two children; Brock Simon and Nancy (Simon) Tabb. Leon’s untimely death at the age of 38 left Jessaline to work full time as a school cafeteria cook while her children were still in school.
Jessaline later married Dale Fetterman in 1961. They took up residence in Yorba Linda, Leucadia and for 20-plus years in Anza. In Anza, Jessaline and Dale had quite a piece of property where they cultivated lots of fruit and vegetables to the delight of their family. In Anza, Jessaline was a member of the Thimble Club and the Organ Club.
In 1994 Jessaline and Dale moved to Bishop to be close to her daughter Nancy. In Bishop she became a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir with her daughter Nancy. She and Nancy also sang with Sweet Adelines. Jessaline continued her interest in the organ by joining Bishop’s Organ Club too.
Jessaline moved with her daughter and son-in-law to Winchester in 2002. Her last two years were spent at Meadowbrook Health Care Home in Hemet.
Jessaline will be remembered for her love of her family and her gifts of musical talents that included a grand singing voice while playing the organ.
Jessaline is survived by her son, Brock Simon of Clarksburg, Mass.; daughter, Nancy Tabb of Winchester; grandchildren, Kimberly Hamilton-Lam, Kari Geosano, Bradly Hamilton, Lance Sheppard and Eric Simon; great-grandchildren, Matthew Tuason, Joshua Tuason, Jessaline Tuason, Tyler Geosano, Jacob Geosano, Annie Geosano, Katherine Lam and Emily Sheppard.
The family wishes to acknowledge the care and kindness given by Cornerstone Hospice and Meadowbrook Health Care Home.
