Lewis Thomas ‘Tom’ Miners


A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at the Bishop Christian Center for former Big Pine resident Lewis Thomas “Tom” Miners.

Born on February 15, 1936, in Ishpeming, Mich. to Allyvion and Signa (Oust) Miners, Tom died Oct. 1st, 2010, at home with his family in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was 74.

Tom married Sandra L. (Kauffman) Miners on Dec. 10, 1955, in Anaheim. He worked as an electrical lineman with the Department of Water and Power for the City of Los Angeles for 35 years. He enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams when they were younger and eventually officiated in football, baseball and softball. He took up running at the age of 50 and competed in a marathon at the age of 55. In 1991, he retired from DWP and moved with his wife to Coeur d’Alene, where he regularly golfed, ran in Bloomsday, and worked out at a local gym.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Signe and Carolyn; son, Lewis Thomas “Tommy” Miners, Jr.: and grandson, Reed Allyvion Miners.

Tom is survived by his wife, Sandra; sons, Randy of Rathdrum, Idaho, Timothy of Winnemucca, Nev. and Bruce of Coeur d’Alene; daughter, Karen Bay of Bishop; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
