Lone Pine Eagles soar over two Mustang herds
The Lone Pine Lady Eagles volleyball squad remains undefeated in League play after a week of clean sweeps against the Vasquez Mustangs and Lucerne Valley Mustangs.

Lone Pine travelled to Acton on Tuesday to take on Desert Mountain League newcomer Vasquez for a key match-up.
The Lady Eagles came away with a hard-fought three-game sweep.
â€śThis was a key DML victory against a talented team,â€ť said coach Mel Joseph. Serving played a critical role as the Lady Eagles served aggressively (96 percent with 12 aces) to keep the Mustangsâ€™ passing game off balance.
â€śWe knew going into this game we had to play smart both offensively and defensively.â€ť said Joseph. â€śWe did just that; placing our hits to keep them scrambling and digging up their outside hitters.â€ť
The victory made for a pleasant but long and damp Tuesday bus ride home.
Saturday, a five-year curse was broken as the Lady Eagles swept a doubleheader against the Lucerne Valley Mustangs.
The home court sweep was decisive with a 25-10, 25-10, 25-10 game one and a 25-12, 25-19, 25-12 game two against the seven-time defending Desert Mountain League Mustangs.
The Lady Eagles are now 4-0 in league play with an impressive 13-3 overall record.
â€śThe Lady Eagles played outstanding team ball and were focused from start to finish,â€ť said Joseph. â€śIt was an awesome display of volleyball; we are playing with intensity and determination.â€ť
Lone Pine now faces two road games against highly competitive teams: Silver Valley in Yermo for another key DML match-up Thursday and Mammoth the following Tuesday.
