LP ambulance service on life support

The Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Protection District will have a measure on the November ballot asking for a $100 parcel tax to support its ambulance service. The papers have been filed with the County Clerk; a ballot measure number has not yet been issued.
The district’s finances just don’t add up, said Fire Chief LeRoy Kritz. The fire department is funded through property taxes but the ambulance service, taken over by the department when a private service left the area in 1994, has to be self-supporting. “Initially it wasn’t self-supporting,” Kritz said.
