There’s still time to participate

July 21, 2014

We’re going to try this again.
After putting a call out for submissions for the Second Annual “A Day in the Life of Inyo County” keepsake publication and receiving a grand total of two submissions by Sunday’s deadline, The Inyo Register is going back to the drawing board.
Readers are now asked to keep track of what they do this Friday, July 25. A synopsis of what they did that day, along with any related photographs, may then be submitted to the Register by 5 p.m. Monday, July 28 for publication in the Thursday, July 31 “Day in the Life” special edition.
Write-ups can be about anything: the point is to provide a written and visual record of a certain moment in time in Inyo County – a mixture of the seemingly mundane with the adventurous; a blending of the usual with the out of the ordinary.
“Day in the Life” is meant to create a colorful portrait of life and living in Inyo County on one particular day in history – something worth saving and looking back on for years to come.
“Last year we had a great response from the community – especially for a brand-new project,” said Editor Darcy Ellis, “so it’s really disappointing to have only two residents throughout the entire county participate this year.
“Obviously the success of projects such as these depends on public participation, so we encourage everyone who is able to submit something,” she continued. “There’s not a lot of turnaround time, but we’re not asking for much. No more than 300 words – that’s like three long text messages or Facebook posts. It’s a very do-able project and it will be well worth the effort.”
To participate:
• Go about your previously scheduled life Friday, July 25 – but take the time to capture a few moments with your camera.
• Sometime between July 26 and July 28, write about what you did that day, or something memorable that happened that day. Keep your story to no more than 300 words.
• All submissions must include a photo of the author, in addition to other photos that may be submitted. All photos must be in jpeg format, at least 300 dpi and a minimum of 4x5 inches.
• Bring your story and photographs to The Inyo Register, 1180 N. Main St., Ste. 108, Bishop, CA 93514, or send by email to projects@inyoregister.com.
Readers’ submissions will be compiled into a keepsake edition and published as “A Day in the Life of Inyo County,” on July 31.
