Dorothy Jean Cornwell
Dorothy Jean Cornwell of Independence passed away on May 1, 2014 in Bishop. She was born Aug. 2, 1928 in Inyo County. Dorothy was an active member of the Pioneer Methodist Church in Independence. Dorothy worked for the Justice Court at the courthouse in Independence.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Turney W. Cornwell; three sons, Rick Cornwell of Boron, Mark and wife, Margie Cornwell of Lone Pine and Tim and wife, Terry Cornwell of Lancaster; one daughter, Carol and husband, Scott Wright of Reno; brothers, Jim and wife Bobbie Riley of Independence, Kenny and wife, Betty Riley of Nevada; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both her parents, James and Tillie Riley and daughter-in-law, Malia Cornwell.
Dorothyâ€™s favorite pasttime was knitting. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren any chance she got. Dorothy touched the hearts of so many people and will always be remembered by those who had the opportunity to know her.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 9 at the Pioneer Methodist Church in Independence. Burial will follow at Independence Cemetery. A potluck gathering of family and friends will be held in the Pioneer Methodist Church social hall.
