Bishop’s latest ‘man about town’

Flat Stanley has been the guest of Carol and John Dipoma of Bishop for the past few weeks. Sent from Simi Valley by their 7-year-old grandson Dylan Dipoma, the one-dimensional fellow got a chance to take in all that the Eastern Sierra has to offer, including fishing at Intake II this past weekend.
Stanley’s odd appearance needs some explanation. The smiling redhead is the title character in “Flat Stanley,” a children’s book written by Jeff Brown. Stanley is squashed by a fallen bulletin board. Faced with this predicament, Stanley sets out on a series of adventures, including being mailed in an envelope to visit a friend in California, hence avoiding the high cost of air fare.
Dylan Dipoma’s teacher, Angela Dellacort-Thomas from Knolls Elementary School, used the book and its accompanying program to encourage students to mail Stanley to family and friends who would then introduce the little guy to the sights and sounds of their individual communities.
