Melba Keller, a lifelong resident of Owens Valley, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014.
She was born June 8, 1923 at Fish Springs to Harry and Lena Watterson.
She is survived by six children, Donald Watterson (Debra), Pamela Charley (Ben), Beverly Coons (Stephen), Marcella Masten-Keller, Lester Keller (Ann) and Edward Keller (Karlinda). She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by father and mother, Harry and Lena Watterson; two children, Tracy Keller and Irving Keller; two brothers, Harold Watterson and Irving Watterson; and two sisters, Pearl Allen and Christine Watterson.
She graduated from Sherman Indian School as a champion tennis player and skilled butcher. She enjoyed attending Annual Indian Boarding School reunions for a number of years.
She was employed at Northern Inyo Hospital as a dietary aide, retiring after 20 years to enjoy her family along with her love of crocheting, fishing, camping and traveling with various family members.
She was the last original founding member of the Cline Howard Womenâ€™s Auxiliary that was established 1951.
A cry dance will be held at dusk Friday, April 25 at 2830 Diaz Ln. (granddaughter Sonja Velardeâ€™s residence). Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Barlow Gym, 390 N. Barlow Lane. Burial to follow at Sunland Cemetery.
