Ed Olsen
1940-2014

Edgar Merlin Olsen was born on March 13, 1940 in Lead, S.D. to Clarence and Thelma Olsen. He passed away peacefully on March 29, 2014, with his wife of 53 years, Pat, at his side, at the Ronald Reagan Medical Center at UCLA, after a long illness.
Ed married Patricia Jean Beshara on Aug. 21, 1960. Pat was the love of Ed’s life. They moved to Lancaster with their two sons in 1965. They later added a daughter to their family. Ed was a very unique person with a variety of trades. Ed found his true calling in the insurance business and was in the profession for more than 40 years.
Ed moved his family to Bishop in 1978 because of his love for the area. He was active with his children and the youth of Bishop. He coached little league for more than 10 years, helped with Bishop High School basketball teams, driving vans and was the director of the Christmas Classic. He was a past president of the Bishop High School Booster Club, then known as the Quarterback Club. He was the Club Manager/Bar Tender at the Bishop Elks Lodge No. 1603, for 10 years, until his illness forced him to leave.
He loved to golf, watching his grandchildren and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. Ed’s greatest joys were his eight grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by both his parents and his older brother, Carl.
Ed is survived by his wife, Pat Olsen of Bishop; son, Mark Olsen of Bishop; son, Randy Olsen and his wife Randy of Sacramento; daughter, Michelle Olsen Baker of Burbank; grandchildren, Carl and Daniel Olsen of Bishop, John, Adam and Camille Olsen of Sacramento, Wyatt, Madison and Dylan Baker of Burbank; six siblings, Bill Olsen, Carol Wolken, Audy Grubl, Darlene Olsen, Darrell Olsen and Judy Kiefer; and very special nephew, Ryan Kiefer, who was there for Ed for the past 15 months.
Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, in Bishop. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, in Bishop.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in his memory to Bishop Union High School Booster Club or the ICARE foundation.
