James Melvin Duckey

James Melvin Duckey, a lifelong resident of the Owens Valley passed away April 1, 2014 at Renown Medical Center in Reno.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna Duckey of Big Pine; daughters, Sharron Young and Rhonda Brooks and her husband, Sherman of Big Pine; sons, Roland Duckey of Big Pine, Carolos Hernandez of Big Pine and Steven Coons and wife, Beverly, of Big Pine and James Hernandez of Bishop; wife, Marceita of Big Pine; granddaughters, Donna Lawrence and husband, Jade of Big Pine, Deborah Hernandez of Phoenix, Ariz. and Kendell Young of Temple, Ariz.; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Jim is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jim was a lover of all outdoor activities – hunting, fishing, horseback riding and exploring the mountains. He enjoyed rock carving and craftsmanship. He will be greatly remembered as a caring husband, loving father and grandfather and a good friend.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12 at Crossroads Church, 315 E. South St. in Bishop. Burial will follow at Woodman Cemetery. A ceremonial cry dance will be held at 9 p.m. Friday, April 11 at 1025 Richards St. in Big Pine.
