Darryl Truelsen
1937-2014

Darryl was born in Denver Colo. to Henry and Lyla Truelsen. The family moved to California when Darryl was 6 years old and grew up in the San Fernando Valley. He loved fishing from an early age and baseball. A born-to-be salesman, his neighborhood would see him coming and get out their pocketbooks, never saying “no, not today.”
Graduating from Van Nuys High School in 1955, he joined the Navy and was a radio operator aboard the USS Purvis and the USS Fessenden, where he traveled through both the Suez and Panama canals.
Darryl married his high school sweetheart, Sonia Harlan in Dec. 1956. After his service in the Navy, Darryl and Sonia raised their family in Southern California, settling in Canyon Country where 4-H was a large part of their lives, raising a menagerie of livestock and participating in the county fair.
Moving to Bishop in 1989, they built a home in the Round Valley community of 40 acres. Darryl maintained the village of Rovana for 12 years and considered it part of his heart. Darryl and his wife Sonia were blessed to make Grace Lutheran Church their spiritual foundation in their love for the Lord where he also enjoyed singing in the choir.
Darryl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sonia; his daughter, Dawn; and his son, Eric and his wife, Cindy, and their three children, Benjamin, Cody and Alyssa.
Darryl was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25 at Grace Lutheran Church in Bishop. A church luncheon and graveside service at the East Line Street Cemetery will follow.
