1926-2013

Irene was born in Danville, Quebec, Canada to John and Bertha Beard on Dec. 1, 1926. She passed away on Dec. 10, 2013 at the Kern Village in Kernville.
Irene immigrated to the United States with her husband and children in 1959 to live in Southern California where she worked as a teacher and principal for St. Timothy’s Church school. In 1969 they migrated north to Little Lake where they owned and operated Little Lake Hotel. They eventually settled in Lone Pine.
Irene worked for the Inyo County Superintendent of Schools, retiring with more than 22 years of service. She was an active member of Trinity Church.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pat Armstrong; and her husband of 58 years, Lawrence “Larry” Armstrong.
She is survived by her children, Dan Armstrong of Ridgecrest, Loreen and Steve Rinker of Weldon, Lucy Chappell of Temecula, Peter Armstrong of Quebec, Canada, Paul Armstrong of Lancaster and Jeff Harris of San Francisco; dear friend and neighbor, Tim Converse of Lone Pine; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held for Irene at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4 at Trinity Church in Lone Pine.
In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation at alzfdn.org or to a charity of your choice.
