Blanche Bonham Comino
Blanche Willetta Bonham Comino, 72, of Paso Robles, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2013. She was born to the late William McLane Bonham and Marie Bernice Bonham on March 11, 1941 in Lone Pine.
Blanche attended Sacred Heart High School in Los Angeles and graduated from Lone Pine High School in 1959. Blanche went on to attend Los Angeles Trade Tech and later earned her Pharmacy Tech license. After 15 years as a Pharmacy Tech, she achieved her degree in Business Management and a Masterâ€™s in Early Childhood Development from the University of Redlands.
She married John Charles Comino in 1962 and they lived in Riverside before relocating to Paso Robles in 1992.
Blanche held numerous positions and memberships, including the SLO Farm Bureau, Fix 46 Committee, SLO Hay Advisory Committee, Adelaide Farm Center, Great Ag Venture, SLO Agriculture Education Committee, Ladies Pharmaceutical Auxiliary and 4-H leader.
Some of the positions she held and awards achieved include District 1 director for SLO Farm Bureau, Hay Advisory Committee chairman, Farm Bureau Freddy Award in 2003, president of the Ladies Pharmaceutical Auxiliary and president of SLO Farm Bureau Women. In 2008, John and Blanche were named Agriculturist of the Year, which is the highest honor awarded by the SLO Farm Bureau.
Blanche was an active member at St. Thomas Church in Riverside and later continued her Catholic faith in Paso Robles. Besides being active in the support of agriculture, Blanche took great pleasure and pride in her grandchildren. In her later years, she took every opportunity available to visit or take her grandkids on entertaining and educational trips.
Those who personally knew Blanche would describe her as generous, giving, thoroughly honest, committed, religious, candid, passionate and respected by her peers.
Blanche is survived by her husband, John, who will remember her as a loving and caring wife and mother; her three sons, Joseph, John and Paul; her nine grandchildren, Joshua, Lauren, Sarah, Zach, Cristina, Sophia, Julia, Makayla and Emily; brother, Bennie Bonham of Lone Pine; sister, Alberta Clement of North Dakota; God-son, Douglas Bonham of Burbank; nieces, Dena Kirk of Glendale and Ann Marie Moore of Apple Valley; nephews, Brad and Chad Clement, Logan and Hayden Clement, William Kirk and Jimmy Bonham; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Her sister, Bettie Halamicek, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at Chapel on the Hill in Shandon on Nov. 30.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that these kindnesses be extended as donations to: Rainbow Bright Christian Learning Center (739 23rd St., Paso Robles, CA 93446), where Blanche volunteered time in her later years; or to St. Rose Catholic School (900 Tucker Ave., Paso Robles, CA 93446).
