Lone Pine resident and Vietnam veteran Bruce Cotton received an early Christmas gift Saturday in the form of a motorized wheelchair he was unable to get from the Veterans Administration.
Cotton was presented with the wheelchair by Southern California resident Rodney Lee Conover, who stepped in after learning of Cotton’s plight this past fall and who says he has since been inspired to run for political office.
Cotton had attended a Sept. 5 town hall meeting hosted by Congressman Col. Paul Cook, and expressed his frustration at not being able to receive benefits to which he felt entitled. Conover, who has been involved in politics as a USO performer and self-described “conservative stand-up comedian,” said he caught wind of Cotton’s story after reading the Sept. 7, 2013 article “Congressman Cook faces local constituents” in The Inyo Register.
